New Delhi: Huge defeat for BJP morally and politically, says Kharge

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 240 seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024 and together with its NDA allies, its numbers will most likely pass the majority 272 mark, paving the way for a third term as Prime Minister of India for Narendra Modi.

Celebrations have already begun in BJP headquarters with supporters congratulating the Party and Modi on the third term. The Prime Minister addressed party workers in New Delhi on Tuesday evening where he announced that the NDA is set to form the government for the third consecutive time.

“Even if our opponents united, they could not win as many seats as BJP alone won in this Lok Sabha election,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the citizens for reposing faith in the BJP and the alliance and assured that in this term, the country will write a new chapter of big decisions “and it’s Modi’s Guarantee”, he said.

Further, the Prime Minister declared, “In our third term, we will focus on wiping out corruption.”

Mention may be made that several exit polls conducted by various news channels had projected the NDA to win close to 400 out of the total 543 Lok Sabha seats. In this election, the BJP is down by 63 seats. It had secured 303 seats in the 2019 elections.

Meanwhile, in the Congress camp, addressing a press conference, Mallikarjun Kharge said that the poll result is a victory of the people of the country. He said that BJP sought votes on one person and one face, but the mandate has gone against Narendra Modi.

“This is a huge defeat for them morally and politically. They have suffered a huge loss from a moral point of view,” Kharge stated.

Rahul Gandhi also said that this election was not fought by the INDIA alliance and the Congress Party against just one political party but also against institutions such as ED and CBI, that he alleged were threatened by Modi and Amit Shah.
