BJP Wokha hosts professional meet on developed India to foster grassroots development

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wokha District organised a professional meet on “Developed India” at the BJP office in Wokha on June 25. The event brought together professionals, local leaders, and stakeholders from various sectors to deliberate on development goals and strategies aimed at building a more self-reliant and progressive community.

The meet focused on collaborative development in key areas including healthcare, entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment, skill development, and local governance. The initiative is in alignment with the broader vision of a developed India, echoing the central government’s objectives over the past decade.

As part of the programme, the BJP Wokha unit also held a press conference and a public awareness session to highlight the central government’s achievements over the past 11 years. BJP Wokha district president Rhanbemo Odyuo addressed the gathering and elaborated on the various developmental activities taking place in the district and state. He emphasised the notable improvement in road connectivity and the positive impact of central schemes on the youth and the wider public.

Mahila Morcha president Caroline Patton, highlighted the empowerment of rural women through central schemes, especially through the formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs). She noted that SHGs have significantly contributed to grassroots-level empowerment by boosting women’s confidence and financial independence.

Deputy chairperson Wokha Town Council, Nzano P Kikon addressed pressing issues related to cleanliness and waste management. She appealed to residents to maintain hygiene standards and cited challenges such as the lack of proper approach roads, which hinder effective garbage collection. She assured that the council is striving to address these issues and encouraged public cooperation.

District Skill Development Officer, Anuranjan Singh spoke on Wokha’s economic performance, revealing that the district ranks seventh in Nagaland’s District Domestic Product (DDP). He called for collective efforts to raise the district’s ranking to at least third, emphasising the need for increased awareness and skill-based training. He also highlighted Wokha’s status as the highest banana-producing district in the state but noted that farmers are yet to fully benefit due to a lack of processing, packaging, and marketing facilities. Singh encouraged farmers to participate in government-run training programmes to enhance productivity and market access.

In the health sector, Dr. Mhonjan Kithan, medical superintendent of Wokha District Hospital, shed light on the benefits under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. He informed that the Ayushman card is accepted at the District Hospital, Community Health Centres in Wokha and Bhandari, and Primary Health Centres in Chukidong and Ralan. He urged the public to avail themselves of free health check-ups and other services under the scheme.

The programme also addressed gender inequality. R Thungbeni Ezung, vice president of the Lotha Eloe Hoho, encouraged women to break traditional barriers and actively participate in community and developmental activities. She acknowledged the strides made by women due to government initiatives, but also noted that disparities persist in certain sectors.

The event concluded with a presentation of the BJP’s ongoing community activities. The party undertook a large-scale plantation drive in which over 2,000 saplings were planted, alongside several other developmental initiatives spearheaded by the local unit.
