Black magic accusations leads to murder in Noklak, five arrested

A murder occurred on May 28 in Noklak under the accusation of performing black magic upon a person. The accusation which ultimately led to assault to two victims, left one person death and another seriously injured. In connection with the murder case, five accused namely Bumo Khiam ( 48), Shing ( 20) , Khomong ( 42) , Bilal Ahmed ( 27) and Longoi ( 25) were arrested.

According to the Noklak Police, a construction worker namely Rashal had a fall out with his Head Mason ( Thikadhar) namely Magmul Laskar, and a construction worker, Hasnul Haque. On May 27, Rashal is said to have informed Bumo Khiam who is an influential local businessman that the duo had performed Black Magic upon him. Having said this, Rashal left Noklak for his village.

On May 28, Bumo called both the said Head Mason and the construction worker separately in a secluded area near a jungle hut and enquired why they had performed black magic upon the worker. However, both of them repeatedly denied the charges and said that they do not possess any Black Magic power.

The accused Bumo along with four of his accomplices took the construction worker, Hasnul Haque, to a field about 10 kms from Noklak and severely assaulted him with blunt objects, who was later, admitted to Noklak District Hospital.  The following day at around 9:00 pm, he succumbed to his injury. It is reported that the other victim,Magmul Laskar, received severe injuries and is under serious medical treatment.

On receiving the report, the Police officers conducted a raid on the suspected houses and arrested 3(three) of the accused at midnight but the main accused escaped. However, the next day he and his another accomplice were arrested by the police.

It is reported that the accused In his confessional statement admitted that he also possessed a Country Made .22 Pistol.  The same was recovered along with 3( three) live rounds.

Official sources informed that investigation is ongoing and the accused will be produced to the Court on June 3,2024.

While claiming for justice, the family of the deceased expressed their shock and sorrow over the dead of their only bread earner who has left behind a wife and three children.
