The Shamator District Administration in collaboration with the Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship organised a Blacksmith Training Programme with ZIS as the training partner at District Cultural Hall, Shamator on March 5.

Speaking on the occasion, EAC Shamator Mekato J Aye highlighted the district administration’s target of creating 3,000 skilled labourers in the district. He encouraged the participants to value the opportunity and time given to them, noting that many others had also shown interest to be part of the training.

He urged the trainees not to wait passively for the distribution of tools and kits but to begin with the talent and knowledge they already possess. He further encouraged them to make use of the platform to learn from experts and trainers, share ideas, and enhance their traditional skills in blacksmithing.

Referring to the district’s reputation for producing quality dao, spades and other traditional tools he urged the trainees to think beyond making basic tools and explore how the craft could contribute not only to livelihood but also to the local and social economy. Drawing inspiration from how the discovery of iron transformed human survival and development, he encouraged the participants to broaden their vision of the trade.

Quoting the message, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are,” he reminded the trainees that every successful person begins from small steps and urged them to actively utilise the skills imparted during the training.

The programme was chaired by John Anar, while the welcome address was delivered by R Kiuju.
