Bodies of two teenagers were found hanging from a tree in the forest area near Alempang Ward in Mokokchung Town on 17 January 2024. The Police have identified the deceased as 19-year-olds Esther and Moasunep.

The Police had been searching for the duo since they were reported missing by family members on 10th January 2025. A look out notice had been sent to all police stations and gates on the same night. Further, the Police could not gather any leads from Call Detail Record (CDR) analysis, tower location and bank transaction details. The Police also said that their mobile phones had been switched off since the day they went missing.

It was only around 3:00 pm on Friday that the bodies of the teenagers were spotted by a man on his way to his farm and reported it to the Police. Once brought to the Station, an inquest was conducted in presence of District Administration and other witnesses.

The Police have ruled out foul play and the bodies have been handed over to their families.

Investigation is ongoing, the Police added.
