In a tragic development, the body of a tourist from Tripura who had gone missing in Dzükou Valley under Kohima district on January 4 has been found.
According to sources, the body was located in the Dzükou Valley area on February 6 around 4 pm. Further investigations are currently underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to his death.
The deceased Pranab Das, a resident of Srinagar district in West Tripura had reportedly gone missing after visiting the Dzükou Valley on January 4. He was last seen at the Dzükou ticketing counter in Viswema village on the same day. A missing report was later filed on January 13, prompting search efforts in and around the valley.
A joint team comprising members of the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO), Southern Dzükou Guide council and volunteers from various youth organisations—including Khuzama Youth Organisation, Viswema Youth Organisation, Jakhama Youth Organisation, Kigwema Youth Organisation, and Phesama Youth Organisation was mobilised to retrieve the body from Dzükou valley. Each organisation contributed volunteers to assist in the retrieval operation.

Police personnel from South Police Station and Khuzama Police Station also accompanied the team as they headed towards Dzükou Valley to recover the body. The body was successfully recovered from Dzükou Valley in the early hours.

According to the team they received information about the discovery of a body at around 4:00 pm from Dzükou caretakers. The team proceeded towards the location and reached the spot between 12:00 am and 1:00 am.
The body was found by the riverside, a few feet away from the water source, below the helipad area. It was clarified that the body was not in the water. Due to the cold climatic conditions, the body was naturally preserved, with no signs of decomposition or foul smell, and was described as cold and hardened.
After reaching the body, the team transported it to the Dzükou base camp at around 3:30 am. Following a brief rest and refreshments, the team resumed their journey at approximately 4:30 am. They reached the Viswema View Point at around 6:00 am and arrived at the Viswema parking area by 7:00 am.
Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) and the Viswema Women Organisation also donated shawls to the deceased.
The body was later handed over to the competent authority for further investigation and legal formalities.
