Shops and business establishments in the districts of Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Kohima and Wokha districts kept their shutters down on Friday as the indefinite protest of Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) began today.
DCCI is protesting the frequent harassment meted out to members of the business community by various groups of Naga Political Groups (NPGs) in the form of taxation, extortion, intimidation, summons, abduction and physical assault. The traders’ body is demanding that Nagaland Government and the law enforcing agencies take cognizance of these activities and take immediate measures to protect the business community.
The Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Chümoukedima, Kohima and Wokha, in solidarity with DCCI also announced to close shops in their jurisdictions on Friday. In Kohima, pharmacies and bakeries have been exempted to cater to travellers.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has asked its members in all districts to prepare to join the indefinite shutter down starting 27th April 2024 (Saturday) in the event, the State Government fails to “heed to the demand of DCCI.”
“This issue merits not only our full support but requires our confederation to act upon as the issue is Nagaland in Nature,” CNCCI stated.
