BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has on Wednesday said that Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 is only related to people who are victims of persecution because of their religion and were forced to flee away from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and asserted that CAA does not at all take away the citizenship of any Indian.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Prasad slammed Delhi Chief Minister and Chief Convenor of Aam Admi Party, Arvind Kejriwal for his remarks that with CAA, the migrants will take away the jobs that rightly belongs to Indian citizens. “Stop telling lies about the CAA”, Prasad urged all those who are opposed to the Act which the Government of India implemented on 11th March 2024.
Kejriwal, on Wednesday, reiterated that opening the doors for the minorities from the three countries is “dangerous” for India. Pointing out that there are around 2.5 to 3 crore people belonging to the minority religions and “if even 1.5 crore of these are given Indian citizenship, who will provide employment? where will they be settled?” he asked.

Opposing CAA, Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary (Communication) said that citizenship based on religion is “not part of our constitutional principles or constitutional values.”
West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have said that CAA will not be implemented in the States. CAA is exempted from the tribal autonomous regions in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram and also Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland where the Inner Line Permit is applicable.
