Campaigning period for Nagaland parliamentary constituency ends at 4pm on April 17

The Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland Vyasan. R IAS in a notification for general information of all concerned informed  that the campaigning period for General Election to the 18th Lok Sabha, 2024 for Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency shall come to an end at 4:00 PM on April 17 (as per Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act. 1951).

According to the notification, after 4:00 PM of 17th April, 2024, no person shall:-

  1. Convene, hold, attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election.
  2. Display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television or other similar apparatus.
  3. Propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of, any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the members of the public thereto.

Any person who contravenes the above provision shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both. After the closure of campaign period no campaign can take place within the constituency. Presence of political functionaries and party workers, who have been brought from outside the constituency and who are not voters of the constituency, should not remain present in the constituency as their continued presence after end of the Campaign period may undermine the atmosphere for free and fair poll. The District Election Administration/ Police Administration shall ensure that all political functionaries leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period is over which is  after 4:00 PM of 17th April 2024.

However, the said restriction may not be insisted upon those office bearers of political parties who are in-charge of our State. Such office bearer shall declare his/ her place of stay in the State Headquarters and his/her movement during the period in question shall remain confined normally between his/ her party office and place of his/ her stay.
