In pursuance of the State Election Commission’s notification, the Deputy Commissioner, Peren, Vineet Kumar IAS has notified to all the concerned as per section 126 of the Representative of the peoples Act 1951, that the campaigning period for the municipal and town council election 2024 shall come to an end with affect from 4:00 pm on 24th June, 2024 and accordingly public meetings will be prohibited during the period of forty-eight hours fixed for conclusion of poll.
DC, Peren also notified that no person shall convene, hold or attend join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with election or display to the public any election matter by means of cinematography, television or other similar apparatus and shall not allow to propagate any election matter to the public by holding or by arranging to holding of any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the members of the public.

Any person who contravenes this provision shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both. DC further informed that in view of the fact that after the clo’ure of campaign period, no campaign can take place within the constituency.
The presence of political functionaries, party workers, procession functionaries, campaign functionaries etc. who have been brought from outside and who are not voters of the respective town council should not continue as their continued presence after campaign ends may undermine the atmosphere for free and fair poll.
However, the said restriction may not be insisted upon the office bearers of the political party who is in-charge of the state headquarters and his movements during the period in question shall remain confined normally between his party office and place of his stay.
