Central Bureau of Communication Field Office Tuensang celebrated World Environment Day at Heningkunglwa village in Peren district, Nagaland. A press release from the bureau stated that the resource person, Bendangsangla deliberated on the importance of the Day and the theme for WED 2023 which is ‘Solutions to Plastic Pollution’.
While pointing out that an estimated 19-23 million tonnes of plastics end up in our lakes, rivers and seas, Bendangsangla said microplastics find their way into the food we eat, the water we drink and even the air we breathe. Maintaining that environment protection is linked to the efforts of every individual, Bendansangla called upon the gathering for collective action for the environment by adopting healthy and sustainable habits, reducing waste and saying no to single use plastics.
A painting competition on the theme of World Environment Day was organised, CBC further informed. A tree plantation drive was also carried out to mark the day. Keyinzaile was adjudged the winner of the painting competition, Ileuchung bagged the second prize while Idwalungle won the third prize.
CBC FO Kohima also organised World Environment Day at Ngwalwa High school. Sensitization programme, painting competition and tree plantation drive were conducted to mark the celebration. In the painting competition, Nteisuingaule bagged the first prize, Chatngu won the second prize while Sima bagged the third prize.
