Having observed the lack of conversation on marriage in many homes today, the Youth Department of Chakhesang Baptist Church Ministers’ Hill Kohima (CBCMHK) on Saturday, April 26, organised a conclave on ‘Christian marriage’ for millennial and generation-z at the church premises.

The conclave was organised because marriage often evokes uneasiness, shame (taboo) or even fear for both parents and their child, informed a press release by the Media and Publicity Committee, CBCMHK.

Consequently, the topic remains guarded until it dawns on many young people to rush into preparation. Further, they are typically excluded from conversations about marriages and lack a sense of moral/ spiritual direction or a Biblical mandate to lean on, the youth department stated.

Moderating a session on ‘the Baptist distinctive on holy marriage’, youth director of CBCMHK, Rakodu Nukhu, said the discussions were from the Baptist perspective on marriage. He noted that conversation on marriage is something that bothers a lot of young people today. Especially when it comes to the Baptist context, many things are unclear and the youths are left without guidance. He expressed hopes the discussion would guide participants through various aspects of marriage.

Rev. Dr. Vetso Koza, Pastor Chakhesang Baptist Church Dimapur, while delving on ‘the Baptist distinctive on holy marriage’ mentioned that guidelines on holy marriage are limited and it still remains an unexplored area.

However, as Christians, one should build the foundation based on the Bible. He added that marriage is instituted by God and that is why it is holy. It is God that joins the marriage and pastors/ reverends administer the joining.

Lanu Vihienuo, Headmistress Dayspring Preschool, Kohima also conducted a session with female participants while Koza with male participants on the topic ‘preparing for godly marriage’.

Over a hundred participated in the conclave. Earlier, senior pastor of CBCMHK, Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao pronounced the invocation. The conclave was followed by the youth worship service.
