The CBI today confirmed that it had questioned Satya Pal Malik at CBI headquarters in Delhi with regard to Malik’s allegations that he was offered Rs 300 crores in bribes to clear two files when he was governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

At a function in Rajasthan in October 2021, Malik had alleged that a prominent industrial house and a representative of a political party had attempted to bribe him, but that he had turned the offers down. The government of Jammu and Kashmir had ordered an investigation to this claim in March this year.

The former governor of Meghalaya also attracted the ire of Narendra Modi’s supporters when he publicly criticized the Modi government in support of farmers whilst the Farmers’ agitation was going on.

Satya Pal Malik’s tenure as governor of Meghalaya ended on 4 October 2022 and it was not given an extension by President Droupadi Murmu. Brigadier (Dr) B D Mishra (Retd) took the charge after him.

The veteran politician from Uttar Pradesh was appointed governor of Bihar in 2017 and then moved to J & K in 2018. Malik was the last governor of erstwhile state Jammu and Kashmir. Article 370 was withdrawn, and the state was divided into two union territories while he held the chair.

Malik was then shifted to Goa and finally to Meghalaya.
