A Two-Week Capacity Building Programme for Young Higher Education Faculty Members in Social Sciences on “Academic and Research Excellence in Higher Education” was held at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus from 7th to 18th May 2024. The event was organised by the Department of Education, NU, Kohima Campus and sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The PRO, Nagaland University, Lumami, has informed that a Valedictory Programme was held on the concluding day with Prof. VP Joshith, Department of Education, Central University of Kerala as the esteemed Chief Guest He was among the Resource Persons for the capacity Building Programme (CBP).
In his speech, Prof. VP Joshith expressed his close connection with the Department of Education and Teacher Education of NU, Kohima campus, adding words of appreciation for the organizers for their hospitality and commitment to the success of the program. Prof Joshith encouraged the participants towards active participation and interaction throughout the sessions, saying that learning should be fun and as educators, they have displayed enthusiasm in academic discourse.
Dr. Boyillapalli Venkata Rao, ICSSR- CBP Co-course Director, in his report, expounded the purpose and objective of the two-week CBP. He mentioned that the committee followed all ICSSR norms regarding topics covered on research and academic excellence. Dr Rao informed that there were 29 participants from 10 different social science disciplines and 36 sessions by 22 resource persons from around the country, all held in line with ICSSR regulations, receiving extensive feedback from the participants. The major outcomes of the CBP are data analysis in Social Science Research by using IBM-SPSS-AMOS, SEM through Smart PLS and knowledge of patents and copyrights, etc, Dr Rao further apprised.
Furthermore, several participants, including Dr. Babli Parveen from Delhi University, shared valuable feedback on the overall CBP, where she challenged the local Research Scholars to also take part as delegates in such programmes in the future. Other participants too expressed that they are going back to their own station with an open mind and new friendships made.
The Valedictory Programme was chaired by the ICSSR – CBP Course Director, Dr. Limala, Associate Professor, Department of Education, Nagaland University. The welcome address was pronounced by Prof. Buno Zetsuvi, former Dean, School of Humanities and Education, also from the same department. The vote of thanks proposed by Dr. M. Rajendra Nath Babu, Associate Professor, Dept of Education, NU.
