Tuensang: Millet Festival stood as a testimony to the enduring role of millets in nourishing traditions and promoting sustainable livelihoods

A vibrant celebration of millets unfolded in Tuensang as the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), in partnership with Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Tuensang Lower Section, marked the occasion with a Millet Mela on August 29, 2023. The event, aligned with the ‘International Year of Millet,’ transformed the GHSS Auditorium into a hub of millet appreciation and innovation, DIPR stated.

Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, graced the event as the Special Guest, underscoring the significance of millets in the region’s culture and sustenance.

Central to the festivities was the Millet recipe competition, where Noklak Block, Chessore Block, and Panso Block clinched the top three positions, showcasing the versatility and creativity associated with millet-based dishes.

Guided by Hongsangsonla AC Livelihood Sangsangnyu, the event was punctuated by engaging elements. Thrikyuse Sangtam, ADPM Tuensang, extended a warm welcome, while Ebou Chang, BDO Sangsangnyu, and Tsalito, In-Charge GHSS Lower Section, delivered succinct insights. Concluding the event on a note of gratitude, Sepila M Sangtam, District Functional Specialist, presented the Vote of Thanks.
