Chakhesang community celebrates Sökhrönye festival in Kohima

Kohima: Organised by the Sekrüzu Area Welfare Union Kohima (SAWUK), people from all walks of life with their traditional attires attended the festival

The Chakhesang people of Kohima under Sekrüzu area celebrated their premier festival Sökrönye today at Naga Solidarity Park, New Secretary Complex, Kohima.

The event was organised by the Sekrüzu Area Welfare Union Kohima (SAWUK).

People from all walks of life with their traditional attires attended the festival.

While extending greetings on the occasion as the special guest, Zachilhü Vadeo, ex minister of Nagaland, said: “For many generations, our forefathers had celebrated Sökrönye with blessings from God while they led a peaceful life in unity and in harmony with their families and relatives.”

He said the festival is a time of purification and sanctification. With the celebration of the festival, he expressed his wish that the bonding among the people of Sekrüzu area would grow and prosper with understanding and march forward for all round development.

While appreciating the SAWUK leaders for organising such an event for the welfare of the area for the first time, he said he hoped that the organisers would continue to bring the area people closer by organising such an event in the near future.

Short speeches were delivered by Besüpra Swüro, Mulhükhwü Nyekha and Yephüzü Swüro.

The programme also witnessed indigeneous games, folk songs and other activities.

The programme was led by S John Keyho, chairman of SAWUK, while Razukhrü Vasa invoked God’s blessings. A folk song was presented by Thürütsüswümi Welfare Union Kohima and Rüzazhomi Welfare Union Kohima.

The event was compered by Kûthoseĺü Vasa and Rasipra Sapu. The vote of thanks was delivered by Rükuvoyi Keyho, vice chairman of SAWUK while the benediction was pronounced by Jopolhü Swüro.
