The Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) has expressed its displeasure and dissatisfaction with the NHIDCL and the EPC companies over “their broken commitment and flip flop approaches” in relation to the 2-lane Kohima to Jessami road.
In a press release, CPO President, Vezuhu Keyho, and the Convenor of CPO 2 lane Committee, Wepe Mekrisuh, regretted “the lackadaisical attitude and slow progress and poor workmanship of the project works”.
“Indeed it is dumbfounded that despite of several pressures, appeals and meetings with NHIDCL authorities and EPC Contractors for proper road maintenance and progress of the works their sweet promises and assurances were ever remain dormant and letting them in the soup and created for public chaos,” stated the apex organization of the Chakhesang tribe.
It added that the public’s patience was being tested and pushed to the limit and called upon the parental status of NHIDCL “to make or arrange workable advance releases so as to meet ends on the part of EPC Contractor for faster and proper work progress as a sign of priority and good gesture on public importance.”
The CPO also mentioned that despite several accidents has taken place on the roads causing loss of lives and public resources due to the poor road maintenance and negligence, the public have tolerated all for want of good roads and not out of ignorance. “It is also to remind that the commuters have every right to avail free passage of movement and safety without any hindrances during 2 lane constructions as per the provisions,” it added.
It, therefore, appealed the NHIDCL and EPC Contractors to comply with the proper maintenance and speed up the project works with specified quality without any further delay. The CPO has also urged the EPC contracted to hurriedly clear all the blocked drains and landslide debris on the road sides in their respective completed packages without fail. It has also made fervent appeal to the NHIDCL and companies for early remedies.
Further, the Organization has informed all concerned village councils “to caution the erroneous miners from their respective areas to avoid damaging of the road but to clear them wherever is necessary as there has been rampant mining activities prevalent along the 2 lane road causing inconveniences and endangering for the road safety.”
