The Chakhesang Students’ Union covered 77 Government Institutions under DEO Phek (SDEO Chozuba, SDEO Pfutsero, SDEO Phek) during its recently concluded 1st Phase of Education Tour which was held from 1st Week of April till 10 May 2024.
The CSU, through a press release, informed that the findings of the Education Tour was “shocking”. It said that “multiple schools were under deplorable state of condition and all almost every school had the issue of teachers shortage and infrastructural needs at several schools.”
The data collected provides valuable insights of student enrollment, teachers count, classroom facilities and specific needs, the students’ body stated, adding that there was an alarming lack of adequate instructors at several schools, particularly in core subject like Mathematics, Science, English etc. at Middle and High school levels.
It has been assessed that at least 20 additional teachers are required immediately to properly staff these schools, the CSU said. It also informed that some schools lack basic infrastructure, hampering smooth functioning and conduct of classes.
Schools such as Khutsokhuno, Dzulhami, Rukizu, Khuza, Phusachodu etc. require new buildings, classroom, staff rooms, and kitchen to create environment conducive to learning, the Union said.
Stating that it will not remain a silent spectator when the students are denied of quality education, the Chakhesang Students’ Union appealed the concerned authority “to rationalise teachers and take necessary steps as per the grievances to fill the gaps so that quality education is provided to the students”. The Union also cautioned that it will be compelled to resort to democratic ways and means to achieve justice and demand its concerns are addressed.
