Challenges faced in state Seed Farm Merapani highlighted at SDPDB Bhandari meeting

The monthly Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) meeting of Bhandari sub division was held at the conference hall of the Summer House-Cum-Guest House, Bhandari, Wokha on June 17.

During deliberation on pertaining issues, H Lawrence, deputy director Nagaland State Seed Farm Merapani informed the house that his office has carried out extensive sensitization and awareness campaigns in the past weeks targeting farm tenants, community leaders and groups, with an objective to maintain status quo in the State Seed Farm area and to take up issues, if any, with competent authority instead of taking the law into one’s own hands.

He maintained that despite numerous  challenges, the department is committed to production of high yielding quality seeds and planting materials for the farming community of the state, and appealed for peace in the area which would be beneficial to all.

The official also highlighted that the State Seed Farm has been functioning without electricity since its establishment in the year 1969, which has hampered smooth and efficient functioning of the farm and on that note urged concerned authority to ensure steady and efficient supply of power to help solve various underlying issues and problems at the Seed Farm.

For maintaining law and order situation within the Nagaland State Seed Farm Merapani, the house emphasised that trouble-makers should be identified and reported to the nearest Police Stations of Bhandari and Merapani.

Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and vice chairman SDPDB Bhandari, Longasen Lotha who chaired the meeting welcomed new members to the house and reviewed the last meeting’s minutes.

The house acknowledged the electrical department for delivering remarkable services to the sub-division despite notable constraints, and given the geographical vastness of the sub-division. It appealed to the concerned authorities of the department to provide a pool vehicle to assist them carry out assigned tasks with smooth mobility.

SDO (Civil) Ralan, Tsenthungo E Ngullie while highlighting on the current status of the construction of the office of SDO (Civil) Ralan, stated that construction work is presently going on expected timeline.

Veterinary department, Merapani was asked to present its departmental profile in the next meeting.
