Chandigarh University remained dominant at the Khelo India University Games 2023 (KIUG 2023) with crucial couple of days left to go. The Games that commenced on 17th February, will conclude on 29th February 2024.
KIUG is taking place in all the North Eastern States except Manipur. competitions across 20 sports. Around 4,500 athletes from over 200 universities across India are competing for the KIUG 2023 title. There are a total of 822 medals up for grab including 245 gold, 245 silver and 332 bronze in 20 sporting disciplines.
At the end of Sunday, 444 medals had been presented, of which Chandigarh University won 48 medals including 20 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze.

Lovely Professional University, Punjab is in the second place with 24 medals that include 11 gold, 10 silver and 3 bronze. Next on the tally is Jain University, Karnataka with total 20 medals of which 8 are gold, 6 are silver and 6 are bronze.
Meanwhile at IG Stadium in Kohima, Chandigarh University has been adjudged the KIUG 2023 ‘Group Champion’ for Wrestling in both the men’s and women’s categories as the Wrestling events concluded on Sunday. The closing ceremony was graced by Governor La Ganesan as the Special Guest and presented medals to the winners.
In the men’s category, while Chandigarh University were group champions, Guru Kashi University and Rani Chanamme bagged the second and third positions respectively. In the women’s category, Chandigarh University came in first while Lovely Professional University and Guru Kashi University won the second and third positions respectively.
During the program, traditional Naga wrestlers Venuzo Dawhuo and Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü, demonstrated the Naga traditional wrestling to showcase the unique wrestling style to the guests.
232 athletes, 25 technical officials and 55 support staff from 72 universities across the country attended the games in Nagaland. The athletes and officials will depart on Monday.
