Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today inspected the ongoing construction medical college site, Nagaland Institute of Medical College of Science and Research (NIMSR) at Phriebagei in Kohima and said that the first medical College in the state is almost ready to start as works have been going well so far and admission process have also begun.
He thanked the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the support in enabling to set up a 400 bedded teaching hospital in Kohima and coming in the rescue for our Nagas in different areas like livelihood, environment, conservation among others.
The CM said that the state have also placed a demand earlier to Prime Minister, Health Minister and Finance Minister and have personally discussed with them that the institute should be given an AIIMS like regional institute so that the maintenance funding can be borne by the government and also to boost the institute for a centre of excellence.
With a host of infrastructure works to be done, Rio asked the NIMSR team to give budget requirement which he added will be released as soon as possible.

Asserting that there is always room for improvement and we can work to make our work the best, Rio added that visits will be made before the institute starts functioning.
Commissioner and Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Y Kikheto Sema during a short briefing welcomed members from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) from Delhi and Japan and team who accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit including Health and Family welfare minister Paiwang Konyak, Chief Secretary, J Alam IAS,
Principal Secretary (home) Abhijit Sinha, IAS and other dignitaries.
He said the project was approved in the year 2014 but was delayed because of several reasons where actual works could only be undertaken almost a year ago. He appreciated the team NIMSR that with constant support from the chief secretary a lot of improvements had been done in just few months.
The commisioner mentioned that key concerns were additional infrastructure Requirement and Human Resource Requirement for salary till 5th year, and recurring expenditure including MBBS Examinations, interviews, workshops and conferences as per MC, Annual Renewal of Permission Fees of NMC.
