Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the newly completed Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow in Mokokchung on May 2. The event was attended by members of the Nagaland Legislative assembly along with other dignitaries.
Rio in his speech while highlighting the historical significance of the site, noted that the bungalow holds a special place in Nagaland’s history, dating back to the British administration in the Naga Hills.
He also shared a personal connection, recalling that his late father-in-law, an Indian Frontier Administrative Service (IFAS) officer, had served as Deputy Commissioner and resided in the bungalow from August 1969 to May 1970.
Dr. Rio further reflected on the memories shared by his wife, who spent part of her childhood at the residence during the late 1960s. He expressed regret that many culturally and historically valuable artefacts from the bungalow had been lost over time and urged the district administration to maintain proper records and safeguard remaining assets.

He also extended appreciation to the contractor and engineers for completing the renovation project ahead of schedule.
Assistant chief engineer (CAWD), Commisioner office, Nagaland Er. Sungtiba Ameu during the brief technical report said that the building was conceptualized during 2023-24 as per the requirements of the department incorporating all the requisites requirements of DC’s bungalow with total estimated cost Rs. 473.81 lakhs with work order period of 24 months and completed on December 2024.
The programme was chaired by DC Mokokchung Thsuvisie Phoji who also welcomed the gatherings, dedicatory prayer by Pastor MTBA Yanglu pongen, short speech by Minister, RD 7 SIRD Metsubo Jamir and vote of thanks by ADC Mokokchung Chumlamo Humtsoe.
