As flash floods continue to wreak havoc across Nagaland, the State Chief Secretary, Dr J Alam, IAS, on Wednesday undertook a comprehensive review of the flood situation in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Medziphema — the most severely affected areas.
According to a DIPR report, Dimapur district witnessed severe inundation following continuous heavy rains from July 5 to 8, with cumulative rainfall pegged at 959.076 mm. Some localities reportedly recorded as high as 3600 mm, overwhelming drainage systems, submerging roads, and displacing numerous families.
In response, an emergency meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was convened on July 9 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Dimapur, following the Chief Secretary’s visit to assess ground conditions. Advisor for New & Renewable Energy and NSDMA, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, also joined the review.
Chairing the meeting, Dimapur DC D. Tinojongshi Chang presented a detailed PowerPoint under the “DDMA Dimapur Incident Report for Flash Floods (July 5–8, 2025)” highlighting affected zones, damages, and action plans for both immediate relief and long-term resilience. Critical infrastructure including the airport and National Highway zones were flagged for priority attention.

The Chief Secretary emphasized rapid field-level response, urging full coordination among departments including the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), PWD, PHED, Health, and Police. He commended the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for swift action despite resource constraints, and assured that demands for more rescue boats and additional funding would be addressed urgently.
Concerns over waterborne disease outbreaks were also raised. The Chief Medical Officer was instructed to mobilize medical teams and begin field assessments, particularly in low-lying areas. Distribution of mosquito nets and emergency medical kits has already begun.

Accompanied by district officials including the DC Chumoukedima, EAC Seithekema, NSDMA personnel and Dobashi, he instructed the administration and NSDMA to intensify flood relief efforts and take all necessary precautionary steps.
He also reviewed ongoing infrastructure projects in the area and advised close monitoring to prevent further disruptions due to inclement weather.
