Children’s track run mark Olympic Day in Kohima

Commemorating Olympic Day, the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) organised Olympic Day Run for different age groups of children on June 23 at the Indira Gandhi (IG) Stadium, Kohima. The event was held under the global theme, “Move, Learn, Discover – Together for a Better World.”
162 school children aged 8-12 years from Kohima, Phek, Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Zunheboto including 98 boys and 64 girls participated in the Olympic Day Run.

The event categories were 50 metres race for 8-9 years, 80 metres for 9-10 years, 80 metres for 10-11 years and 100 metres for 11-12 years.

Director for department of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS) Kethosituo Sekhose who was the special guest, expressed concern that many people have developed a sedentary lifestyle. He said when one is active, we they learn and while learning, there is discovery. Encouraging the young children to keep up their capabilities, Sekhose urged them to keep up with more practice. He also called upon parents to allow their children to engage them in their field of interested activities.


He appreciated the NOA for organizing the event and also lauded the participants from different districts. The official remarked that their participation shows their keen interest.

He highlighted the commitment of the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio that in the years to come, every district will feature not only a local ground but with features of international standards for football, athletics etc. He urged everyone to take advantage of the government’s initiative.

Final Results:

Under the 50 metres race for boys (8-9 years), Sunjai Kumar won the first prize by clocking 8.00 seconds, Sevi Belho came second with 8.03 seconds, and Zahvi Wotsa bagged the third prize with 8.26 seconds.
For girls (8-9 years) 50 metres, Shongmo Shiu came first by clocking 9.04 seconds while Ilivi Sumi came second at 9.10 seconds and Kivisinuo third place at 9.26 seconds .
In 80 metres race for boys (9-10 years), Choveo Vero won the first prize with 12.18 seconds, Obijit Das bagged second prize with 12.26 seconds and Zhoku Sapir came third with 13.19 seconds .
In 80 metres race for girls (9-10 years), Sophia Gurung won the first prize with 13.82 seconds while Kevizonuo Sakhru and Lelu Dzudo won the second and third place by clocking 13.90 seconds and 14.23 seconds respectively.
Under the 80 metres race for boys (10-11 years), Mughakupu H Yesca won the first prize by finishing the track within 11.1 seconds, Victor Awomi came second at 11.40 seconds and Sengmad Momin came third with 12.46 seconds .
For 80 meter race for girls (10-11 years), Lihiki won the first prize by clocking 12.83 seconds, Vikousanuo Metha won the second prize with 13.38 seconds and Jongtie bagging third place with 13.89 seconds .
In 100 metres race for boys (11-12 years), Aneizo Meru won the first prize at 13.59 seconds, Kivika Swu came second with 13.72 seconds and Vivito Vincent came third with 13.97 seconds.
For the girls 100 meter race category (11-12 years), Livina T Awomi won the first place with 15.55 seconds, Meguolhounuo Khawakhrie bagged second prize with 16.61 seconds and Himlei Haudok bagged the third place with  17.63 seconds.
