Chokri Area Union Kohima holds general session; announces new team

The Chokri Area Union Kohima (CAUK) general session 2025 was held on October 11 at Hotel Japfü, Kohima with MLA and Advisor for CAWD and Taxes Kudecho Khamo as the speaker.

Addressing the event, Khamo asserted that Naga society is confronting problems such as substance abuse, unemployment, and other issues. He emphasized the role of parents in addressing these challenges, as everything begins at home. He opined that for a society and nation to progress, he stated that it does not solely depend on the resources it has but on the leadership at the forefront. In this regard underscored the need for a change in behaviour, approach, and thinking, and called for collective efforts.

Khamo urged thinkers and officers to deliberate and reflect for the greater interest of society through unity. He highlighted the need to inculcate a work culture that is biblically aligned with traditional values in order to fight corruption.

The MLA stated that entrepreneurship is the way forward to address unemployment, emphasizing dedication, while those aspiring for government jobs should be sincere and hardworking.

He further called for a resolve through willpower to bring change and the people to take up projects and entrepreneurship to achieve economic progress and growth.

Commissioner and Secretary Zhothisa Dawhuo, in his address advised all to be mentally and physically prepared for the reservation review and to accept it positively, irrespective of the outcome.

Considering the passage of highways through Chokri land, the official urged the people to return to their villages, plan well for their livelihoods, and boost the economy. He also advised the community to live well and not bring a bad name to the community.

IGP Rothihu Tetseo urged the Chokri people to maintain their identity and understand the deeper meaning of being called Chokri.

He warned against individual championship in society, which brings disturbance, and called upon the people to think collectively for the good of society. He also expressed concern over the proliferation of many non-governmental organisations (NGOs) with profit motives and liabilities to others.

Tetseo underscored the need for people to not abuse simplicity but to remain humble and rethink without being too rigid.

A new team of CAUK was also announced by Dozhohu Tunyi, convenor search committee.

The new team will be led by Dr. Rüpfühü Rose as chairman, Vevotso Medeo as vice chairman, Cekrongoyi Theyo as general secretary, Nukhosa Chuzho as secretary, Vezhohu Khamo as finance secretary, Sekhosa Chuzho as treasurer, Kunezo Puro as publicity and information secretary, and Vengota Nyekha as social and cultural secretary. The advisors include Zühunyi Medeo, Shetsüyi Ruho, Posetso Thingo, and Khupo Kezo.
