Christian High School Noklak celebrates Cultural Event Cum Children’s Day with thrill

Noklak: MLA Longon urges students to uphold one’s own mother tongue, revive farming activity, and to honour clanship

Christian High School Noklak observed Cultural Event Cum Children’s Day on Tuesday with an event filled with electrifying performances and unison hearts with an aim to revive culture and traditions. The program was held under the theme “Culture, Our Identify” at the school’s Lashiu Campus, Noklak.

P. Longon, Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, 56- Noklak AC and Chairman DPDB, agraced the occasion as the special guest. In his address, he asserted that despite having rich cultures and traditions, it is being degraded and forgotten as time transitioned. Stating that a tribe or a nation is defined by culture, traditions, customs and beliefs, Longon said that Khiamniungan is also one distinct tribe in the state of Nagaland. While adding that Khiamniungan tribe is considered to be rich in heritage, the MLA also lamented that it has failed to uphold its culture and failing to utilise its social ways of life.

Stating that change is a natural phenomenon, Longon made an urgent call to rise from the state of inactivity least the tribe becomes ‘lost or unidentical’. He further stressed that it is most important to know the basics of the roots to where one belongs which should never be forgotten, adding that the roots will characterize one’s tribe as sacred.

Adding that the day is significant, the MLA also urged the students to uphold one’s own mother tongue, revive farming activity, and also stressed on honouring clanship among the community.

Longon further announced assistance to any students willing to do research work on historical documents linked to culture and traditions of the Khiamniungan tribe.

 

Lt.Col. Ajay Ahluwalia, Second in Command, 14th Assam Rifles, speaking on ‘Beauty of Indian Diverse Culture ‘ stressed that Culture is a way of life and diversity is what brings unity with a common goal to achieve peace and harmony.  Ahluwalia pointed out the areas to cultural diversity which is accepting each other’s flaw and having mutual respect.

 

Vikuonuo Sachü, Former Miss Nagaland and Founder of Miraculum Society, speaking during the second session of the event, urged the gathering to understand that putting on one’s own traditional attire is representing his or her own culture and tradition. While celebrating such a significant day, Sachu reminded the students that it is them who will be promoting culture and traditions in the future to a greater height. The former Miss Nagaland appreciated the community which has allowed her to understand compassion and kindness. Further, she stressed on the importance of coming together and accepting new changes and working with young minds to which she says will result to greater society and Noklak doing as one of the best districts. Sachu strongly urged the students to preserve their culture and identify as by doing so, they are preserving values as taught by the forefathers.

During the occasion, Cultural Club Noklak Town and Thangnokyan Menyiu Hoikam (Thangnokyan Mother’s Association) performed a traditional dance. The 14thAssam Rifles Band also entertained the gathering with their performance besides the various presentations by the students and teachers of Christian High School Noklak.

The Keynote address was given by Chongtin, Headmistress, CHS and a special prayer for the students was led by Pastor Penglang, Longdon Baptist Church Noklak Town.

The event was attended by invitees and parents along with students and teachers.
