Christopher Tilak welcomes former NDPP youth leaders to Congress Party in Mokokchung

All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary In charge of Nagaland, Christopher Tilak, visited the District Congress Committee (DCC), Mokokchung on 20th February 2025. He was accompanied by MP (Lok Sabha) and PCC President, S Supongmeren Jamir, Working President of NPCC, Khriedi Theünuo, President of DCC Kohima, Ketseiyie Mere, and other NPCC leaders, the Communications Department, NPCC informed in a press release.

Addressing the gathering, the AICC leader acknowledged that the Congress party needs to reinvent and align its messaging in line with the aspirations of the youth of the nation, emphasizing the primacy of the youth and the women folk in shaping the electoral mandate in contemporary India.

The press release also mentioned that Tilak wholeheartedly welcomed several young and dynamic former NDPP youth leaders, including ex Mokokchung Municipal Council candidate from Sangtemla Ward, Alemtuba Imsong, former Vice President of the NDPP Youth Wing, Tiasunep, and Imsuwapang Jamir, former Youth President of Sangtemla Unit from the NDPP, during the same event, exhorting them to work tirelessly for the welfare of the people of Nagaland under the secular ideals of the Indian National Congress.

Further, highlighting the essence of the party’s mission for 2028, Tilak stressed the importance of unity and outreach, and urged the gathering to be like salt, adding value to the collective effort, in true spirit of the pioneering legacy of the people of the Mokokchung in the political and socio – economic story of Nagaland.

Also speaking at the event, MP S. Supongmeren Jamir underscored the significance of the 2028 elections, stating that the party must prepare and strategize in tune with the call of the times. He urged Congress leaders to evaluate their strengths and find suitable roles, batting for dynamic leadership that can speak to the needs and concerns of the people effectively.

The press release stated that the MP also criticized the central government’s decision to suspend the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border terming it as the painful rebalkanisation of the Naga Family.

Khriedi Theünuo, Working President Incharge of Administration Zone ‘A’, NPCC, said that the visit was aimed to assess the party’s progress in the district. He expressed the party’s readiness to move from opposition to governance. Highlighting Mokokchung’s historical role in accepting Christianity and education, he urged DCC Mokokchung to take the leading role in standing against the BJP’s majoritarian divisive agenda.
