The Chukitong Range Students Union (CRSU) organized a program on 18th December 2024 to commemorate its Golden Jubilee with Achumbemo Kikon, MLA & Chairman of the Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB), Bhandari as the Chief Guest and Chumlamo Humtsoe (NCS), Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung as the Special Guest and Chumbemo Jerret Patton, a Social Development Entrepreneur as the Theme Speaker. The event was held at the Helipad, Chukitong Town under the theme “Embrace Progressive Vision”.
In his address, Achumbemo Kikon recalled that the first jubilee session of the CRSU was graced by Lt. T.A. Ngullie, MLA, as the Chief Guest, and 50 years later, another MLA was present, reinforcing the idea that “history repeats itself.” He remembered Lt. Pinyimthung Patton, Lt. N.N. Ngullie, and Lt. T.A. Ngullie, noting their contributions and emphasized their vital roles in the establishment and growth of the union. He also acknowledged the presence of the first president of CRSU, who shared valuable insights with the audience, noting that such knowledge was a precious gift for all present. The MLA urged the students to continue embodying the values of unity, progress, and vision that have defined the CRSU from its inception.
Speaking on the theme “Embrace Progressive Vision”, Chumbemo Jerret Patton stressed the importance of adopting a forward-thinking mindset. He urged students to set goals at short, mid, and long-term intervals to ensure their success. He reminded them of the National Youth Policy, which focuses on promoting youth development and participation in critical areas such as entrepreneurship, governance, and social justice.
Further, Patton delved on the evolving nature of generational differences, emphasizing the importance of preparing the younger generation for an uncertain future by equipping them with critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability.
Patton also spoke about the need for leadership that prioritizes collective well-being, urging a shift toward visionary leaders who invest in sustainable solutions and education. He emphasized life skills, such as empathy, critical thinking, and problem-solving, as essential tools for both personal and collective growth.
Khumkhothung Ngullie, first president of the CRSU, expressed joy at the remarkable growth of the union over the years. The gathering was also marked by a silent prayer honoring the pioneers who contributed to the formation of CRSU.
The Jubilee Souvenir was launched by Chief Guest Achumbemo Kikon during the event. A dedicatory prayer for the Jubilee Monolith was offered by Sankiluma Kikon, Pastor of Kohima Lotha Baptist Church, followed by the inauguration of the Monolith by Achumbemo Kikon. The Monolith Patron was Lt. N.N. Ngullie, IPS (Retd.), and family.
A special song was presented by Saronthung Kikon, a solidarity message from Chumben Khüvung, General Secretary of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), and a cultural performance by the Chukitong Area Baptist Mission School. The program concluded with a Benediction by Mhao Kikon, Pastor of Tsungiki Baptist Church.
In the second session of the Golden Jubilee celebration, Special Guest Chumlamo Humtsoe (NCS), Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, graced the event. The session also included a significant moment with the sealing of a time capsule intended for the years 2024 to 2049.
