In the letter, Pelelhu and Avizo of Class 4‘A’ and Tssojamo and Viketou of Class 4’B’, DBHSS, had requested for a football match between the classes. “We would like to humbly request your authority to kindly allow a friendly match between Class 4A and 4B before our final exam 2023,” the boys had said, assuring that if permission was granted, they “will play in good team spirit and we will also study hard for our end exams.”

Amused netizens were also impressed by the writing skills of the students, for which the boys gave credits to their English-II teacher “Miss Janbeni”.

Speaking to Nagaland Tribune, Father James, Principal, DBHSS, Kohima, said he was happy that the boys came to him in “spontaneity” requesting for a friendly football match. They promised to play in the spirit of true sportsmanship and keeping in mind that the schedule for the end exams have been declared, the Principal said, appreciating that the boys did not forget their prime duty as students.

Father James also said that the best way to lead children to God was by engaging them in useful and practical activities which are enriching and will help them as individuals.

The match on Friday was so competitive that neither teams could score when the final whistle blew. After the penalty, when the winner was declared, the classmates of Section ‘A’ ran to the field in jubilation to congratulate the players.

The players from the winning team of the friendly football match could be heard asking their Captain to treat them with ice cream. Later, there were reports that some boys faced disciplinary action for going out of the school gate to buy ice cream.
