Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister & Home Minister Yanthungo Patton flagged off 35 SUVs, 100 bikes and two Mobile Forensic Investigation Van (MFVs) for Nagaland Police on 4th July 2024 at Police Complex, Chümoukedima in a bid to strengthen policing in the State, DIPR informed.
Speaking at the flagging off, CM Rio stated that the addition of these vehicles will help Police transport for quick response and more effective in the service of the public. He said that with the remarkable economic growth in the country, Nagaland has also witnessed positive economic growth particularly in the private economic enterprises and rapid growth in urban areas in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Niuland and peak areas like Mokokchung and Tuensang. In this economic growth, multiple problems like increases in crimes have been witnessed and ewe are concerned for the security and safety of all the citizens particularly the business community, he added.
The CM pointed that Dimapur, in particular, is seeing increase in extortions, illegal taxation and crimes as bordering with Assam all kinds of people live in the area and thus rears all kinds of illegal activities and social elements, for which policing is a challenge. He asserted that if Dimapur areas are put to check than all the State will be a safer place and urged the Police to upgrade themselves with latest technology and blue policy against any social elements in urban areas.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that over the years, police are actively performing their duties with effectiveness in bringing laurel to our State by putting a check on crimes, criminal and smuggling across the State. He hoped that the addition of new vehicles will enable the division to effectively track criminals. He assured the police that Government will always support and encourage the Police and Administration to continue with their commendable job diligently, as they are the backbone of the government.
Further, CM Rio urged the public to support and cooperate with the Police and Administration in performing their duties effectively and provide peace and security to all the citizens. He was optimistic that with the addition of these new vehicles, they will achieve higher goals and gain confidence of the public.

Deputy CM & Home Minister, Y. Patton in his address stated that vehicles to the Nagaland Police fleet is to fortify its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. These vehicles symbolise our dedication to responding swiftly and effectively to the needs of the people. They are an essential resource that will enhance our operational capabilities, particularly in areas where mobility is crucial for timely intervention, He said.
Patton asserted that the outlook of crime is continuously evolving and emerging and new methods of committing crimes have put immense pressure on our policing needs. He expressed hope that addition of these new vehicles will significantly bolster the Police force’s mobility. It will enable quicker response time, greater reach, and more effective patrolling especially in urban areas like Dimapur where population density and urban spread present unique challenges.
The Deputy CM further urged the citizens of Nagaland to continue their partnership with the Police, as their vigilance, cooperation, and timely reporting of suspicious activities play a crucial role in preventing crime and maintaining peace.

Director General of Police, Rupin Sharma, IPS, in his welcome address, thanked the Chief Minister, under whose direction and guidance, the Nagaland Police have taken a substantial stride towards effective tactics way to deal with the situation. He said that some of the vehicles are connected with GPS and the motive behind it is to make the police more effective, safer and more secure for the State. He stated that the addition of new vehicles is a momentous achievement for the State, and will enhance the operational capacities of the law and enforcement agency.
The State police have taken a transformative step with inclusion of these vehicles and with this addition of vehicles in line with commitment to improving public safety, quick response time during emergencies, ensure justice, solving crimes, and creating a secure environment for the citizens, the DGP stated.
