Kohima: Festival signifies passing of old things and beginning of new things

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton extended their greetings on the occasion of Mileinyi festival to the people of the Zeliang Tribe.

Mileinyi or Mleingyi is one of the premier festivals of the Zeliang community that signifies the passing of the old things and the birth of new things. The rituals include making fire and praying for fertility, good health and good harvest. The festival is also marked by get together, merry making, singing and dancing.

CM Rio in his message said, “I wish the Zeliang community a happy Mileinyi, which marks the passing of the old and the beginning of new things.” In his post on X, the Chief Minister also prayed “for a bountiful harvest and blessings of peace and success be upon all our endeavours”.

Deputy CM Y Patton in his message extend heartfelt greetings to the Zeliang community on the joyful occasion of Mileinyi. “May the festival, emblematic of purification and prosperity, bring about a renewal of spirit, harmony, and foster prosperity in every house! Happy Mileinyi!” he said.
