Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio received premier varieties of ‘king of fruits’ from Bangladesh Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina. In a post on Twitter, CM Rio said he was “honoured to receive finest quality mangoes” from the leader of the neighbouring country.
He also expressed hope that ‘India-Bangladesh relations is further strengthened’ under the leaderships of India’s PM Narendra Modi and Hasina.

Both countries are exploring ways to increase co-operation and have recognised the crucial role the Northeastern region of India has in the bilateral ties.
Rio had in April said that Nagaland is all set to benefit from the co-operation as North East and Bangladesh have close ties. Expressing his happiness that India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) led by Abdul Matlub Ahmad, has mounted a large business delegation from Bangladesh to the B20 conference held in Kohima, he said that this would also provide a window for interaction with local entrepreneurs to strengthen the business ties and make a strong case for greater commercial activities across the borders.
Bangladesh PM Hasina has also sent mangoes to all the chief ministers of the Northeast.
She also sent 600 kg of mangoes as a gift to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, officials said.
“Mangoes comprising the ‘Himsagar’ and ‘Langra’ variants have been sent to Banerjee, as part of diplomatic efforts. Last year, too, we had sent mangoes,” an official in the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata said on Monday.
Last year, she had sent mangoes as a gift to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the chief ministers of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam.
