Colleges in Nagaland observes World Environment Day

Colleges in Nagaland today observed the World Environment Day in consonance with the global theme “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience”.

Phek Government College

The Phek Government College observed World Environment Day on the 5th of June 2024 under the Theme “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience” along with the rest of the world.

A brief progr’m was organized by the Department of Environmental Science and Science Club, PGC. Mughato K. Kiba, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany was the chairperson, while Dr. T. Tiakaba Jamir, Principal, gave the welcome address.  Vilhoutounuo Theunuo, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science delivered a short talk on the theme after which a plantation drive was carried out at the college Botanical garden.  Saplings of Bauhinia, Cephalotaxus, Prunus cerasoides and Thuja which were provided  by the office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Phek were planted in the Botanical Garden. NSS of the college also took part in the Plantation Drive along with the staff and students.

Oriental College Kohima

On Wednesday, the Oriental College Kohima observed World Environment Day. Understanding the importance of preserving the environment the Principal Dr. Khriereizhiinuo Dziivichii announced the planting of trees in the college campus. All the teaching  faculty contributed saplings and a plantation drive was conducted in the college.

People’s College, Mokokchung

People’s college, Mokokchung, celebrated the World Environment Day on 5th June at the new college campus, Mongsenbai Ward, under the theme “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience”.  The program began with the planting of one sampling by the Principal while the Vice Principal. Miss Shuman(Asst.Prof, Economics) addressed the audience with a speech spreading the awareness of saving the environment. As a prequel to the celebration, the college conducted a painting competition for the students. The competition was as per the theme of the World Environment Day and students enthusiastically participated in the competition where the 1st Prize was awarded to Monh followed by the 2nd Prize bagged by Tongpangmei.
