The Government of Nagaland today informed that a District Level Committee has been set up in each district in pursuance of the Hit and Run Motor Accidents Scheme announced by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Notification No. G.S.R.163 (E) dated 25 February 2022.
This District Level Committee has been set up by the Governor of Nagaland Prof Jagdish Mukhi.
The committee members will undertake all functions connected with the implementation of the Compensation to victims of Hit and Run Motor Accidents Scheme, 2022.
The committees have been tasked with the following:
1 | Claims Settlement Commissioner (Deputy Commissioner) | : Chairperson |
2 | Claims Enquiry Officer (Sub-Divisional Officer) | : Member |
3 | Superintendent of Police / Deputy Superintendent of Police | : Member |
4 | Chief Medical Officer of the District | : Member |
5 | The Regional Transport Officer/ District Transport Officer | : Member |
6 | Any member of the public or a voluntary organization connected with road safety aspects as nominated by the Chairperson | : Member |
7 | Nitish Ch. Dey, AM (D)/ Thiyam Shivanand Singh AO (alternate member) | : Member |
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had introduced a new scheme for compensation of victims of Hit and Run motor accidents vide on 25 February 2022 to cater to enhanced compensation. Under the scheme, a claimant would receive Rs 12,500 to Rs 50,000 for grievous hurt and from Rs 25,000 to Rs 2,00,000 for death.
