The community in Pungro Town has come together to build a classroom for Government Primary School (GPS), Forest Ward, Pungro Town, under SDEO Pungro, Kiphire, which lacking sufficient rooms for its students and staff.
The school has been accommodating Classes Pre-primary to 5 in a two-room building by dividing the two rooms into four smaller rooms. Additionally, the school has borrowed one run-down staff quarter from the Forest Department to house the primary sections.
With the introduction of ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education), the need for a classroom arose and taking into consideration the department’s inability to meet the necessary needs in a very short time, the School Management Committee (SMC) under the Chairmanship of Immanuel Yingchothong and Secretary S. Shojiba initiated the plan to collect freewill contributions from the community for building one.
A total of Rs. 89,300 was generated and the construction took nearly two months to complete beginning from fund contributions, to planning and completion, the Committee informed.
It stated that the ECCE classroom will be utilized for the pre-primary classes for various activities. Moreover, the ECCE can set the foundation for good health, nutrition, learning success, social-emotional development, and economic productivity throughout life. Further, the Committee also expressed gratitude to the government for sending one ECCE trained teacher to the GPS.
The contributors towards building the classroom included District Administration Pungro, SMC and teaching staffs, Chamber of Commerce Pungro, All Ward Pungro Town, EBRC Pungro, Baptist Church Pungro Town and Timber Association Pungro. Khesangmong SK Enterprises donated cement, sand and stone chips and voluntary labour for construction was borne by PWD & Forest Wards, Pungro Town.
