The Department of Cooperation launched the Computerization of Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) Nagaland, a CSS program under the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, at CTC, Medziphema on March 14. Zarenthung Ezung, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland Cooperation Department, graced the event as the Guest of Honour.

In his address, Zarenthung Ezung expressed his pleasure and privilege to be part of the launching program. He emphasized the significance of the project’s approval by the Government of India for computerizing primary agricultural credit societies, aiming to integrate all functional PACS into an ERP-based Common National Software.

“The implementation of the Common Accounting System and Management of Information System at the PACS level will enhance governance and transparency, leading to the speedy achievement of goals, lower transaction costs, reduce imbalances in payments, seamless accounting, and increased efficiency in PACS operations among farmers,” stated Ezung. He added that this initiative aligns with the vision of “Sahakar Se Samriddhi,” which aims for effective strategies to establish a seamless and integrated cooperative movement free of challenges or obstacles.

The Guest of Honor mentioned that the computerization of PACS will offer a comprehensive ERP solution for all prescribed economic activities, including financial services tailored to short, medium, and long-term needs enhancing farmers’ access to credit.

Underscoring Nagaland’s progress in the computerization of PACS, Ezung highlighted that the state has commenced the process for 33 PACS in the first phase and has proposed an additional 198 PACS for the second phase. He expressed optimism that this phase would be completed by 2024 to 2025, depending on the performance and achievements of the initial 33 PACS. “The successful implementation of the first phase will pave the way for extending the project to the second phase across the state,” stated Ezung.

Furthermore, he highlighted one of the significant challenges faced by financial institutions in Nagaland, noting that the prevailing attitude towards loan repayment is among the most pressing issues observed in the state.

In conclusion, Ezung urged all PACS members to fully utilize the opportunities provided to them, stressing that doing so would significantly contribute to enhancing societal activities and improving living conditions.
