Condemnations and tributes continue to pour in for 22-year- old murdered in Kohima

Following the murder of a 22 years old woman in Kohima on October 24/25, condemnations and tributes have poured in from various organisations including the Basketball community. A candlelight vigil organised by the Kohima District Basketball Association will be held on October 29 at D. Khel Basketball court, Seikhazou.

Angami Women Organisation

The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) strongly condemned the heinous incident and called upon the law enforcement authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly identified and brought to justice.

While welcoming the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), the organisation also reminded and demanded a swift, thorough and impartial investigation to bring the perpetrator (s) to justice. “It is imperative that those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law, sending a message that such violence will not be tolerated in our society,” expressed the organisation.

It affirmed solidarity with the bereaved family and appealed to the public to support the investigation process and to remain vigilant against all forms of violence and injustice against women.

The Angami Women Organisation also reiterated its firm commitment to advocate for the safety, dignity, and rights of women, and will continue to monitor the case closely until justice is delivered.

Angami Students’ Union

Expressing outrage, the Angami Students’ Union condemned that such heinous and senseless act of violence has no place in a civilized society.

The Union offered its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. “The cold-blooded killing of an innocent young woman has shaken the collective conscience of the people and created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. Such a society of fear is unacceptable and dangerous especially for students and the community at large and must not be allowed to exist in our land,” it stated.

The Union further called upon the State Government and the law enforcing agencies to take immediate, and exemplary action against the perpetrator(s) and ensure that justice is delivered without delay. It urged the State Government to seriously look into the growing concern for the safety and security of its citizens, particularly women and youth and to take all necessary measures to restore public faith in the rule of law.

Alumni Association, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama

The Alumni Association, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama expressed its deepest sorrow and outrage over the tragic and untimely demise of it alumnus.

“She was known for her commitment, compassion, and contribution to society. The Alumni Association stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during this time of unbearable loss,” the Association stated.

It urged the concerned authorities to undertake a fair and transparent investigation so that the truth may prevail and justice is duly served.

Mima Youth Organization

The Mima Youth Organization (MYO) has condemned the barbaric act calling it “unacceptable and cannot be tolerated under any circumstance whatsoever”.

It expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and offered heartfelt condolences and unwavering support.

Further, the organization urges the law enforcing agencies to swiftly deliver justice and hold those accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

Mizoram Basketball Association (MBBA

Mourning the tragic loss of a remarkable young talent, the Mizoram Basketball Association (MBBA) mentioned that the victim represented Nagaland at the 1st U23 National Basketball Championship in Guwahati earlier this year.

The MBBA noted that she had already shown “flashes of greatness a brilliance built on hope, discipline, and determination. Her passion for the game and her unwavering spirit inspired everyone who had the privilege of watching her play.”

“May we find strength and inspiration in the champion she was, and in the promise she embodied,” expressed the Association.
