Condolence messages continue to pour for late Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya for three Northeastern States where he had served as Governor. PB Acharya, who hails from Udipi in Karnataka, passed away in Mumbai on 10th November 2023 at the age of 92.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio condoled the demise of the “kind and a good friend to the citizens” of the state. During PB Acharya’s tenure as Governor (19 July 2014 to 31 July 2019), he had the distinction of serving with three CMs of Nagaland, and he had an excellent rapport with all of them. Rio said.
The CM described Acharya as “a down to earth statesman and a noble soul, whose main concern was to serve the people” and lauded him for fostering good relations with political parties across the spectrum.
Rio mentioned that the people of Nagaland will remember the former Governor for his diligence, intelligence and kindness, especially to children for whom, Acharya opened his heart and Raj Bhavan. The CM also appreciated the former Governor’s for being an inspiration for many youngsters and said that the death of one of the most loved Governors of Nagaland was a great loss to the nation and especially to people of state.
The Chief Minister, on behalf of the state extended deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
Nagaland Governor La Ganesan paid tributes to his predecessor, hailing him as “a venerable leader with a genuinely warm, hospitable and generous personality.” The Governor stated on X that PB Acharya’s compassionate nature and unwavering concern for the less fortunate will be cherished forever.
Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang mourned the passing the “statesman and a true leader with whom I had the pleasure to serve during his stint in Nagaland.” In a post on X, Zeliang said that Acharya was a “fatherly figure who guided and gave advice politically and personally for the good governance of the State.”
Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, in his message on the micro blogging platform, conveyed that the former Governor’s contributions to Nagaland and its people will always be remembered. “He was a man of wisdom, compassion and integrity, who served as a bridge between various groups and communities, Patton stated.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condoled the demise of PB Acharya and honoured him as “a true leader who was committed to bringing developments and advancements in the Northeast region.” Singh said that the former Governor of the state not only made significant contributions to strengthening the BJP across the nation but also worked to serve the people. The CM extended his heartfelt condolences to late Acharya’s family and followers.
Anusuiya Uikey, the present Governor of Manipur, acknowledged PB Acharya’s “life of simplicity and dedicated service to the nation,” which she said “will serve as a lasting inspiration.”
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu too expressed profound grief and pain over the passing away of former Governor of his state. Khandu said that Acharya “made significant contributions to the country’s development, leaving behind a lasting impact.”
“May his family find strength and solace in the memories of his dedication and the positive changes he brought about,” the CM hoped while extending his condolences.
Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam where PB Acharya held additional charge as Governor between 12 December 2014 and 17 August 2016, said that the late statesman’s “commitment to national development, evident in his influential role within the BJP across Bharat, is a loss deeply felt.” Sarma added that the “revered intellectual” had made pivotal contributions to the progress of the Northeast.
