After the losses in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on X that the party “humbly accept the mandate” in these States adding that “the battle of ideology will continue.”

In yesterday’s assembly election results declared by the Election Commission of India, Congress lost Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan to BJP while the latter retained power in Madhya Pradesh.

In Telangana, where it grasped power from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Rahul Gandhi thanked the people and assured that the Congress “will definitely fulfill the promise of making Prajalu Telangana.”

He also conveyed his gratitude to all the party workers for their hard work and support.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge too thanked the people of Telangana for choosing the party. Admitting that the performance in the States of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan has been “disappointing”, Kharge thanked all who voted for Congress, adding, “with determination, we reaffirm our strong resolve to rebuild and revive ourselves in these three states.” He also acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the party workers.

“We will overcome temporary setbacks and prepare ourselves fully for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections along with the INDIA parties,” Kharge avowed.

Congress Secretary Jairam Ramesh in his message expressed hope to repeat history. He reminded that in 2003, the Congress party lost the state elections in the same three States, winning only Delhi. “But within a few months, the party bounced back and went on to emerge as the single largest party in the Lok Sabha polls and formed the government at the Centre.”

“It is with hope, confidence and a firm sense of resolve and resilience that the Indian National Congress prepares for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls,” Ramesh added.

The Congress leader also stated that the win in Telangana is a silver lining not just for the party, but also for the people of the state.

Jairam Ramesh shared more encouragement for his party supporters by sharing that while the performance in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan was disappointing, the “vote shares tell a story of a Congress that is not very behind the BJP—in fact, it is within striking distance.”

This is the reason for hope and revival, he declared.
