The Congress party on Match 31 launched its campaign for the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency by-election. Candidate, T Chalukumba Ao addressed public meetings in Aliba and Chungtia villages.
The campaign was attended by Member of Parliament and the president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), S Supongmeren Jamir, Khriedi Theunuo NPCC Working President and star campaigner, NPCC working president, C Apok Jamir, District Congress Committee (DCC) Kohima president, and leaders from Mokokchung DCC and the 28 Koridang Congress A/C.
Addressing the gatherings, Chalukumba Ao positioned his candidature as an effort to introduce an active opposition voice in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, stating that the present opposition-less system limits democratic accountability. He maintained that, if elected, he would raise public concerns in the Assembly and oppose decisions that do not align with the interests of the people.
He emphasized that elections should be conducted in a democratic and peaceful manner, cautioning against treating the electoral process as confrontation. Stressing the need for responsible governance, he urged voters to critically assess development claims and instead focus on long-term economic sustainability. He remarked that economic strength and proper utilization of resources are essential for meaningful progress.
NPCC president, S Supongmeren Jamir, while endorsing the candidate, called on the voters to support the Congress in promoting clean and fair elections. He said the party aims to foster a more constructive political environment in the constituency and reiterated the importance of electoral integrity.
Jamir also referred to the candidate’s commitment to public service, stating that leadership should be guided by responsibility rather than material capacity. He added that a Congress representative in the Assembly would contribute towards political balance and stability.

Speaking on the occasion, I Temsu Jamir, vice president of DCC Mokokchung, described the by-election as an opportunity to strengthen democratic practices. He encouraged voters to actively engage in the electoral process and hold elected representatives accountable for their commitments. .
The Congress leaders collectively appealed for a free and fair election, stating that the objective is to ensure that voters are able to exercise their choice in a transparent and credible manner ahead of the April 9 poll.
