Rajya Sabha MP and AICC General Secretary (Organisation), K C Venugopal asserted on Tuesday that Congress Party’s basic principle is to never promote anything against Nagaland. The party stands with Nagaland and the sentiments of the Naga people, said MP Venugopal while responding to a query on the Union government decision to do away with the 40-year-old Free Movement Regime along the Indo-Myanmar border in four northeastern states.

MP Venugopal was addressing a press meet on Tuesday here at Congress Bhavan, Kohima after the preparatory meeting for Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Mentioning that the Yatra is not political nor does it have any connections with the Lok Sabha elections, MP Venugopal however said that he has great expectations on the Nagaland parliament seat. “Last election also we fought very well, it was a close fight. This election let Naga people decide, we have great hope,” he added.

Meanwhile, speaking on the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra, he said the Yatra is to seek justice for the youth and womenfolk of this country which is the most disappointed section of the society. He pointed out that the poor-rich gap is widening everyday and the entire government is only concentrating in making few people extra rich and totally neglecting the poor people of this country.
