Consumer’s Awareness program was held at DC’s Conference hall, Phek on June 14 with District & Session Judge cum Chairperson, Phek DLSA Mezivolu T Therieh as the guest speaker.
Mezivolu reiterated and informed the audience that the law on Consumer’s Protection Act 2019 is a comprehensive legislation in India to safeguard consumers’ interests and to address their grievances. It repeals and replaces the Consumers Protection Act 1986, she informed.
Emphasising on 2019 Act, she said it includes, settlement of disputes, digital commerce, and strict penalties on misleading advertisement. She also spoke on Mediation and Central Consumer Protection Authority of 2019 Act which prevents unfair trade practices against the interest of the consumers.
Stating on rights of filing a complaint, Mezivolu mentioned and said that the consumer can file complaint from where she or he resides even if the products were purchased through online.
Sheikhozo Rhakho, Assistant Controller, LM & CP, Phek delivering on the keynote address of the programme spoke on the purpose and the importance of the programme and shared rights of the consumers, stating as to how to tackle the challenges, like unfair trade practices face by the consumers.

ADC and Executive Officer, Phek Town Council, Thenakhrienuo Nisa, spoke on the importance of providing good quality of products and services to the Consumers. She then, encouraged the traders and business community to be a consumer-friendly environment.
The programme was organised by the department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection and District Legal Service Authority, Phek in collaboration with Phek town Chakeshang Students Union.
Program was chaired by Vekuta Khamo, Vice President, CTCSU, Vezovo Rhakho and the President PTCSU proposed the welcome addressed.
