The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection conducted a Consumer Awareness Programme at Government High School, Japan Riba, Chozuba under Phek District on October 16.
Sekhotso Rokha, Advocate and Panel Lawyer from the District Legal Services Authority, Phek, was the resource person. He elaborated on the rights of consumers under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and highlighted the issue of unfair trade practices. He urged consumers to carefully check goods and commodities before making purchases and emphasized the importance of seeking redressal for consumer grievances.
Thepfuletuo Keyho, Inspector, LMCP, delivered the keynote address, where he encouraged the gathering, especially students, to be aware of their rights in today’s world of choices and technology. He stated that being a consumer is not just about buying or using products but about understanding and exercising one’s rights responsibly.

He also highlighted the reduction in prices of goods and commodities following the reduction in GST by the Government of India and urged students to be responsible consumers, noting that “every rupee we spend is a vote for fairness and honesty in the marketplace.”
Earlier, Assistant Headmaster of GHS Japan Riba, Vekhozo welcomed the gathering and expressed gratitude to the department for organizing the awareness programme. The programme was chaired by Kuthosü Tsutso and concluded with remarks from the chairperson.
