Chief Secretary, Nagaland, Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS has informed that the State Government has decided to constitute a Commission to examine and submit a report on Reservation Policy in Government Employment where the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization, the Central Nagaland Tribes Council and the Tenyimi Union Nagaland were each requested to nominate a credible and qualified person from the communities they represent, to be a member in the Commission.

In this regard, it has been brought to the notice of the Government that the tribes represented under the 5 Tribes CoRRP are objecting to the nomination of members to the Commission by the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). It may be clarified that the CSOs are to nominate a credible and qualified person from the communities they represent and not office bearers of the CSO.

It stated that this decision was arrived at to ensure that the opinion of the respective communities who are the most important stakeholders is suitably taken into account in the assessment and future applicability of the Reservation Policy in the State. The nomination of the stakeholders was sought as it is felt that such a vital issue should not be decided by the Government alone.

In light of the above, the CS requested to reconsider their position on the composition of the Job Reservation Commission to ensure that the Commission can submit a comprehensive and inclusive report.
