The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has on Tuesday intensified its stir against the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. for inordinate delay in the construction of NH-29 Kohima to Jessami Road – Package-2.
The Union had earlier announced restrictions, effective from May 12, on the movement of vehicles belonging to NHIDCL, EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd., and government-registered vehicles. Exemptions were made for medical services, administration, emergency services, police and para military forces, and power and PHED staff on duty.
Despite these directives, the CSU expressed dismay by the “continued apathy and silence” of NHIDCL and M/s Ratna Infra, even though the matter has remained unresolved for over six months.

The union, in an update, stated that there have been repeated violations of its blockade call and vehicles under the prohibited category were continuing to ply the route. As of Tuesday evening, it informed that a total of 12 vehicles have been seized—11 belonging to NHIDCL and one government-registered vehicle— for disregarding CSU’s directives.
Meanwhile, the CSU has reiterated its demands and warned that “any further unauthorized vehicular movement will be met with intensified action”. The student body maintained that its agitation would continue until its demands were duly addressed.
Additionally, the CSU would hold the implementing agency responsible for any untoward incidents or consequences arising along the NH-29 Road Package-2 stretch from Chakhabama to Kikrüma. CSU volunteers are reported to be currently stationed at Kikrüma.
