The State Government has said on Saturday that the Nagaland Staff Selection Board is trying to put in place a robust, transparent and IT enabled recruitment process and appealed to the NSF, student bodies, candidates and parents to let the current recruitment process be allowed to continue without change in the interest of the future of meritorious youth.

The Naga Students’ Federation had on 13 September 2022 first objected to the viva-voce component in the Combined Staff Recruitment Examination 2022 with the demand for reduction of the Personal Interview marks from 12.5% to 5%. After repeating its demand a number of times since then, the Federation on Friday sent a representation to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland warning to boycott the interview process if its demand is not accepted.

NSSB conducted its first CSRE on 11 and 12 November 2022 after advertising the posts on 9 November 2022.

The Government, in its reply to NSF, also stated that NSSB was established in consultation with various stakeholders including the students’ body and that its Regulations were framed taking into account the practices of other Recruitment Boards and Agencies.

It said, ‘any States in India have retained viva-voce and interviews as an integral requirement of the recruitment process.’ The government also mentioned that recently the Supreme Court in its recent Order in Case No. Civil Appeal No. 2103 of 2020 has directed for 12.5% of the total marks for the viva voce for the recruitment process under Haryana Staff Selection Commission.

The NSSB is confident that the interview process will also be completed smoothly and transparently as per the regulations, Personnel & Administrative Reforms Department stated, adding that since the current recruitment process was started with existing regulations, it should be allowed to go on without any modifications.

The interview process for the 630 posts advertised by NSSB begins on 18 April 2023.
