In the inaugural program on Saturday, Special Guest Kesonyü Yhome, Commissioner and Secretary to Chief Minister, Works and Housing, encouraged all to give importance in preserving the Tenyidie language and emphasized the importance of education in preserving and promoting our language and culture.
He added that the preservation of our ethnic language, culture, and tradition is closely intertwined. Our language is the carrier of our culture and tradition, and without it, we risk losing our unique way of life. It is through our language that we communicate our customs, values, and stories from one generation to the next.
Yhome fondly reminisced about the excitement and camaraderie that he experienced while taking part in Spero Meliora many years back. He emphasized the importance of such events in shaping the character and identity of the younger generation.
The Commissioner said that we must strive to create a positive lifestyle in our society by embracing our language, culture, and tradition and this can be achieved through various initiatives such as promoting language education and organizing cultural event. He stressed that we must also encourage the younger generation to take an active interest in their roots and instil in them a sense of pride for their language and heritage.
Further, Yhome highlighted the need to appreciate and learn from others’ struggles. Emphasizing that no job should be seen as too big or too small, and that everyone should be willing to start small and work their way up, he urged the village council, community leaders, and individuals to come together and support each other in promoting employment opportunities and economic growth.
