In a bid to promote cultural heritage, education, and environmental stewardship, the Dapfütsumia Students Union (DSU) held their Literacy Day event under the theme “Strive for Knowledge” at Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Government Higher Secondary School, Seikhazou.
Emphasizing the importance of ancestral wisdom and respect for elders, Assistant Director, Directorate of School Education, Visetonuo Kire highlighted how their teachings and traditions shape the culture and must be cherished. She advised that one should aim to preserve their legacy for future generations, by paying homage and listening to their stories
Furthermore, Kire stressed the significance of education in safeguarding the cultural heritage. Educating themselves and others about customs, language, and history ensures a strong foundation for the coming generations, fostering a sense of identity and belonging.
Another key aspect of the event was the promotion of environmental stewardship. Recognizing the deep-rooted connection between culture and nature, Kire encouraged attendees to care for and respect the land, that sustain them, thus preserving their cultural practices tied to the natural surroundings.
The DSU President, Mhasituo Kire, delivered the welcome address, and the vote of thanks was given by Kekhrieneinuo Sachü. The program commenced with an invocation by CRC New Market Pastor Kikruneilie Yiese and a captivating special performance by Nourhengunuo Kire. Mengukhrietuo Yiese chaired the program, making it a truly memorable event.
The event also featured various literary competitions, including cultural songs, elocution, spelling bee, essays in Tenyidie and English, painting, sketching, debate, solo singing, extempore speech, quiz, and solo recitals. Participants displayed exceptional talents and skills, creating an enriching and competitive atmosphere.

The winners of these competitions will have the honor of representing DSU in the “Spero Meliora,” an annual literary competition organKohimaized by the Kohima Village Students Union (KVSU). This prestigious event brings together all four khels (Tsütuonuomia Khel, Dapfhütsumia Khel, Pfuchatsumia Khel, and Lhisemia Khel) of the village, fostering unity and healthy competition.
