Dawn to dusk bandh in Eastern Nagaland on 8th March, intensive protest thereafter

Dimapur: Present tenure of ENPO Executives extended for another three months

The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) has called for a dawn to dusk total bandh all across Eastern Nagaland on 8th March 2024 from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm in protest of the Government of India delaying its demand for Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).

The total bandh will be followed by “intensive protest”, ENPO had decided during a Joint Coordination Meeting with tribal bodies and frontal organizations on 5th March 2024 in Dimapur.

In this regard, the apex organisation has directed the tribal bodies to inform the authorities in their respective districts and asked the presidents and general secretaries of frontal organizations to be stationed at Tuensang headquarter.

Further, the following will be exempted from the total bandh on 8th March:

  1. Students appearing Board Examinations
  2. Weddings
  3. Medical Emergencies
  4. Fire & Emergency Services
  5. Media persons
  6. Talk Team
  7. Leaders of ENPO/tribal bodies/frontal organizations with valid ID issued by the respective offices

The ENPO had earlier on Tuesday declared a “Public Emergency” all over the Eastern Nagaland region with immediate effect. The meeting also resolved to “strictly implement” the 23rd February 2024 Chenmoho Resolution “not to participate in any central and state election” until the matter on FNT is settled.

“… the people of Eastern Nagaland shall not accede to any assurance that may come up with by the MHA to be implemented after the upcoming Parliamentary election process,” the organization resolved.

ENPO has also prohibited any political party from conducting election campaigns in the region during this period of ‘public emergency’. “Any individual or group not adhering to the declaration would be doing so with their own risk whatsoever,” it cautioned.
