DC Chümoukedima issues monsoon advisory

In view of the onset of monsoon, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chümoukedima Polan John has issued a set of advisory and precautionary measures to the citizens of the district, particularly requesting all to refrain from going near landslide-prone areas and avoid any water-related activities.

In an official bulletin, the DC directed all concerned administrative officers, head of departments, ward authorities, village disaster management authority (VDMA) chairmen and head GBs to be alert and take necessary precautionary measures to avoid the loss of life and damage to properties.

The DC, who is also the chairman of the district disaster management authority (DDMA), listed several dos and don’ts for the people of the district including staying informed and updated on weather alerts; to be cautious while travelling; to keep an eye on elderly, children and people that require assistance; unplug electrical devices during thunderstorm; drive cautiously; avoid unnecessary travel specially at night; not to spread rumors but rather listen to official sources for accurate information; not to touch fallen power lines; to avoid walking or driving through flooded areas.

In case of any emergency, the citizens are asked to contact the concerned authorities immediately. “Report incidents such as flashflood, landslides and rockfall, uprooting of trees etc. to the following helpline numbers: DDMA, Chumoukedima – 7085288949/ 628083108, Traffic Control, Chumoukedima – 7085055039, State Emergency Operations Centre – 1070 (Toll Free number), 112 (ERSS Extension) 0370- 2291120/22,” the notice informed.
